Memory & Special Care
Where did I leave my keys? Why did I come into this room? These are common and normal expressions of the busy lifestyles we all lead. Serious memory loss, dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease are not. Our specialized Advanced Memory Care programs allow us to focus the attention of our care staffs on the unique frustrations and fears that come with memory loss.
Confusion, disorientation, anxiety, and paranoia are all feelings that can be managed successfully with carefully designed interventions which reorient or redirect the memory impaired resident into safe, productive, and meaningful activities and emotions.
WestHaven is also pleased to coordinate with skilled physician’s and home health care professionals to supplement our social service model with cutting edge medical, pharmacological, and behavioral modification programming. With such a wide range of needs WestHaven offers an equally wide range of care plans, behavior modifications, special dementia interventions, and specialized activities programming.
WestHaven programs for memory care clients have been state approved and are staffed by specially trained Care Companions all in a specially designed memory care community with active and passive close monitoring and attending.
Toileting Supports
Residents who have lost full control of bowel and/or bladder don’t have to be reminded of their loss. Our unique prompt and cue and proactive approaches to toileting can dramatically reduce embarrassing accidents. Level two and level three continence care programs are aimed at keeping your loved one clean, healthy, and independent despite the loss of functionality so common with advancing age.
Living in Community
WestHaven is not an institution, a hospital, or a convalescent center. We are residential homes for the dependent elderly where, along with our residents’ family and friends, we live and work together. Our buildings look and feel like “home”, and so does daily living. Our relational approach to care is unique and effective in building and maintaining a sense of belonging.
All of our community spaces – living, dining, recreation, and outdoor porches and patios – are accessible to every member of the WestHaven family. We work every day to foster an atmosphere that is as homelike as possible. Small and intimate settings – with buildings that house as few as 5 residents while others house up to 30 persons – allows your loved one to build close and lasting relationships with their neighbors and their caregivers. Family and friends are as much a part of our extended family as our residents and staffs. Immediate family are welcome anytime – with no restrictive visiting hours to limit your time with your loved one.
